Madhuri Vijay’s debut novel ‘The Far Field’ wins 2019 JCB prize for Literature

Madhuri Vijay's The Far Field bagged this year's JCB award for fiction(2019). The novel narrates a young woman's search for a lost figure from childhood. Her journey spans from south India to Kashmir exposing the political crisis in the state and introspects our sense of nationhood.

The JCB award is the most expensive Indian Literary Award for fiction. It was established in 2018 by the English construction and manufacturing group JCB and Benjamin's (a writer from Kerala) Jasmin Days (translation from Malayalam to English)was the first work to bag the award. The award considers works written in English and translations from Indian Languages by Indian writers.. Rana DasGupta is the Literary Director of the foundation.
